STEEPLE CHASE GOLF CLUB (847)949-8900
Chicago Golf Course Review 6/10/07
Steeple Chase Golf Club in Mundelein, is located 35 miles north of downtown Chicago. This Ken Killian
designed 6827 yard par 72 opened in 1993, and has been recognized in Chicagoland Golf's top fifteen public
courses for nine years running, and Golf Digest Best Places to Play has awarded it 4 stars (out of 5). This is a beautiful golf facility well deserving of these awards.
There are four sets of tee boxes that play to distances and slopes measuring 6827 yards/136 slope from the
gold tees, 6466 yards/133 slope from the blues, 5950 yards/126 slope for men and 131 for women, and 4831
yards, with a slope of 118 for women playing from the red tees. Steeple Chase has 34 sand bunkers of varying sizes and shapes and water comes into play on 7 holes.
The topography is hilly with sculpted sand bunkers, wet marsh areas and mounding near the sloping greens.
There is plenty of variety off the tees in the form of water hazards, fairway bunkers, wide and tree lined fairways.
The putting surfaces are well protected with water, sand traps, and mounding guarding them.
On course sprinkler heads are marked with yardage measurements to the center of the greens. Blue and red
colored yardage plates are set in the middle of the fairways 200, and 100 yards out, along with white stakes at
150 yards. On the greens red, white and blue flags determine front, center, and back pin locations.
The clubhouse features a pro shop, and men's and women's locker rooms with showers. There is also a
restaurant open at 8 am, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a banquet area which can hold 200 people,
plus more in a tent if necessary. The practice facility includes a putting and chipping green, and hitting cages in place of a driving range.
We highly recommend a round here - prices are quite reasonable for a course of this stature! For more info, visit our page fro the course, with direct link to their website by clicking here
