COYOTE RUN GOLF CLUB (708-957-8700)
Chicago Golf Course Review
Coyote Run is an exciting new facility of the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, located just 40 minutes south of downtown Chicago. This 18-hole par 71 championship course
was redesigned (former layout was called Cherry Hill) by Greg Martin and opened for play in 2005. Wide manicured fairways with abundant landing areas and playable rough
make this an experience that can be enjoyed by all levels of players. One of the improvements in the makeover was the addition of a two-row computerized irrigation system,
insuring quality conditioning from tee to green.
Four sets of tees play to distances measuring 6478, 5900, 5235 and 5018 yards. The slope rating tops out at 120, indicating this is a very playable layout. However, with 54
strategically placed sand bunkers and with water in some shape or form on eleven of the holes, skilled golfers will be tested from the blue tees. The slope seems a bit low in fact,
as this is not merely a walk in the park. A couple carries are necessary, and some of the hazards located greenside require accurate approaches. Miss short however and low
running chips and pitches can often be utilized to the fairly flat green complexes.
The player friendly design is a welcome addition to the area, and the three-hole practice course situated adjacent also provides a wonderful service, inviting beginners and juniors
to learn the game in a non-intimidating environment. The holes measure 90, 162 and 130 yards, and teaching lessons and clinics are available. Also on property is a lighted
driving range, putting and chipping greens, and a pro shop stocked with the latest equipment, accessories and clothing.
The adjacent Northwoods Restaurant, serving home-cooked meals in a lodge setting, is part of a small chain with respected establishments located throughout the Chicago
area. Lunch and dinner items are available year round, with some breakfasts planned for the near future. The tent pavilion can be utilized for large groups and special events, with
catering available. The friendly, well conditioned layout and extensive facilities make Coyote Run a good venue for tournaments and outings.
On course, yardage indicators are provided through color coded stakes, placed at 100, 150 and 200 yards. Sprinkler heads are measured to the center of the green, and front,
middle and back hole locations are indicated by red, white and blue flags. For more info, visit our page for the property, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
