HERITAGE BLUFFS GOLF CLUB (815-467-7888)
Chicago Golf Course Review
Heritage Bluffs is a Dick Nugent championship design that has garnered 4 stars out of five from Golf Digest Places to Play. Additional awards include: 10 Best New courses
throughout US and Canada by Golf Digest (1994), Chicago Tribune Top 10 Courses in Illinois, Zagat Survey Top 50 Best Value in US, Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
The course is a visually stunning layout featuring significant elevation changes with a wonderful mix of links and traditional tree lined holes. Though this is a challenging course,
golfers will appreciate the generous landing areas and green complexes that present openings in front and ample opportunities for recoveries on shots hit short.
On property are full scale practice facilities which include a grass range, putting green and short game area with sand bunker. The clubhouse features a snack bar/lounge with
hot and cold sandwiches and beverages, plus full meals such as ribs, steaks and chicken. There is a pro shop as well, and ample space for golf outings and events. Continues
cart paths run along the well manicured bent grass fairways and tees on this surprisingly rolling layout, that features water in play on 5 holes - with over 50 sand bunkers defining
the landing areas or located greenside.
On course there are yardage markers at 100, 150 and 200 yards, plus sprinkler heads that are measured to the center of the green. The tee boxes provide measurements and
hole locations on the generally level putting surfaces are indicated on the pin placement sheets provided for on each cart. Much appreciated are the yardage markings at 100, 150
and 200 yards (250 on par fives) that are visible on the cart paths.
There are NO RESIDENCES lining this golf course, which is located just a short 30 minute drive from South Chicago. Parallel fairways are an oddity, and players will often feel as
if they are alone with nature...This is a tranquil setting, which can be easily reached as traffic heading this way is lighter than that in most of the surrounding suburbs. Wildlife,
trees, wetlands and meadows are incorporated into 166 rolling acres, making a drive to Heritage Bluffs a trip worth taking.
Scenic course, interesting layout, wonderful maintenance and great, friendly service - what is not to like? We highly recommend it!
