WHITE DEER RUN GOLF CLUB (847-680-6100)
Chicago Golf Course Review
On all our travels, White Deer Run, a 4 star Dick/Tim Nugent championship design, is one of the prettiest residential community courses we have encountered. Located on 200
rolling acres of the famed Cuneo Estate along the North Shore, this course was established in an incredibly upscale residential development in 1998, and has been given a five
star rating by Chicagoland Golf! It offers a stern test for the avid golfers, while affording a fair challenge for high handicappers.
The clubhouse provides the upscale amenities of a private club, with a pro shop, restaurant/lounge doubling as a banquet facility (picture here of set up for Mothers Day Brunch),
and locker rooms with showers for men and women. The practice facilities are extensive, with two putting greens, a short game area with sand bunker, plus a separate grass
range that also is used for the Todd Sones Impact Golf School - with Todd as the head instructor, a teacher with credentials as a Top 100 Instructor in the United States!
Five sets of tees at White Deer Run provide golfers with choices of distances and slopes measuring 7101/137, 6751/133, 6237/128, 5655/125 and 4927 yards with a slope of 116
for ladies from the forward sets. The challenge of this layout which features outstanding conditioning from tee to green, is in the form of significant water hazards and numerous
sand bunkers - over 100 in total. These traps are situated greenside and are strategically located along many of the fairways. You will need a strong sand game to perform well
here. The par threes are strong - including the 48h and 12th, which feature carries over wetlands. The signature hole is another par three - the 172 yard fourth, which features a
well bunkered green complex behind a significant water hazard.
The green complexes are medium to large in size, with swales and mounding making up and down recoveries from off-line approaches a chore. Golfers will need a full array of
shots - from the bump and run to high arcing wedges to reach in regulation or to save par. Once on, putting is a joy as these smooth, true running surfaces are only mild in slope
and undulation. Pin placement info is provided by color coded flags that indicate front, middle and back hole locations. Along the fairways, sprinkler heads are measured to the
center of the green and 150 yard stakes are visible on par fours and fives. Uplink GPS is also standard on all carts.
This golf experience is upscale all the way - from the course layout and conditioning, to the views of the beautiful homes (castles) that appear nearby. Practice time and lessons
are available to the general public on the 1 1/2 acre range. We highly recommend a round here! For more info on this course, visit our page for White Deer Run Golf Club with
